About the programme
This interdisciplinary BSc programme blends programming, creative design, and critical thinking to provide a holistic approach to understanding how games are made, why they're made, and what they tell us about the world. As one of the first programmes of its kind within the Russell Group, Game Design BSc combines insights from Computer Science and the School of the Arts to help you develop the technical knowledge and creative vision to shape the future of interactive media.
Introduction
As a student of Game Design BSc, you’ll be introduced to the study of video games (including the history and development of gaming cultures), the complex nature of interactive media, and the critical issues accompanying engagement with virtual worlds, multicursal narratives, and dynamic musical content. The modules focus on developing an understanding of the creative and technical skills necessary to make compelling assets for games, and consider complementary areas such as app development, algorithmics and software development. Combining individual and team-based projects will enable you to compile a portfolio of work to showcase to prospective employers.

Year one
The first year of your Game Design programme at the University of Liverpool will build the foundation for the discipline with a focus on the basics of programming, creative fundamentals, and the academic context for game design.

Year two
In year two, you’ll better understand specialised areas like software engineering and artificial intelligence. You will also have the option to explore game design’s creative and artistic areas.
*To take up composition for digital games, students should take an introduction to sound and music in audiovisual media in Y1 or have equivalent experience as approved by instructors.

Year three
Your third and final year will consist of advanced study of game and app development, while exploring the philosophical issues associated with play and virtual worlds with our optional modules. You will deliver a significant collaborative project that will allow you to put your creative, critical, and technical learnings to work.

Scholarships
We offer a range of scholarships and bursaries to support talented undergraduate students from every background. A variety of scholarships and bursaries will be available to eligible students. You'll need to apply to be considered for some of these awards, while others are awarded automatically. Entry requirements
Applicants must fulfil the following criteria to be eligible for the Game Design BSc programme at the University of Liverpool, Bengaluru.
Eligibility criteria
- Indian boards: Applicants must have completed Class XII (CBSE/ISC/state boards/Cambridge A Level) with a minimum 75% average across four core subjects, with at least 60% in Mathematics at Class X
- International Baccalaureate (IB): Applicants must have a minimum of 32 points overall, with no score below 4

- For English, grade 5 SL/HL is required for English A, or 7 HL / 6 SL for English B
- For Mathematics AA/AI, grade 4 HL or 5 SL is required. Mathematical Studies is not accepted
Alternatively, applicants may pass the IB with scores of 6, 5, 5 in three HL subjects
- A-levels (UK/Cambridge A Level): Applicants must have a minimum of ABB, along with at least a GCSE mathematics grade C/4 and a GCSE in English grade C/4

English language
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. This can be met through one of the following:
- Standard XII English: Minimum 70% from CBSE, CISCE, Cambridge A Level, or state boards
- International Baccalaureate (IB): Minimum Grade 5 in English A (SL/HL) or minimum Grade 7 (SL) and Grade 6 (HL) in English B
- Cambridge IGCSE: Minimum Grade C/4 in English (First Language) or minimum Grade B/6 in English (Second Language).
In some cases, and depending on the overall university requirement, applicants may be asked to provide a recognised English language test such as IELTS or TOEFL in addition to school-level qualifications.
Predicted grades (provisional criteria)
Students who have not yet received their final Class XII results may still apply. In such cases, Class XI or Pre-Board scores can be considered for a conditional offer.
