    Introduction

    The Biomedical Sciences BSc is designed to give you an understanding of the biological processes that drive human health and disease. From studying how cells communicate to exploring how diseases progress and how treatments are developed, you’ll gain a broad and flexible education in the biomedical field.

    Year one

    Your first year marks the start of your transition from learner to independent student. You’ll explore the core concepts of biology and the fundamental principles of immunity, infection, and therapy. You’ll also study how organisms develop and function while examining ecology and the global environment.

    Practical lab sessions will help you build essential scientific and quantitative skills, while tutorials will develop your study techniques and academic confidence. By the end of the year, you’ll begin to see how the biosciences connect as a whole, and where Biomedical Sciences fits within this fascinating scientific landscape.

    Year two

    In your second year, you’ll expand your range of knowledge, building those essential research skills, experimental design and analysis, together with professional skills preparing you for a career within or outside the area of biomedical sciences. You will study physiology, biochemistry, immunology, genetics, and pharmacology.

    Year three

    Year three will provide an unparalleled opportunity to learn at the cutting edge of biomedical sciences research. You will also have the chance to take a physical or virtual placement. Central to this year is the capstone research project, where you will plan and execute your own research, analyse, and critically evaluate data and communicate your research findings in your chosen specialisation.

    Entry requirements

    Applicants must fulfil the following criteria to be eligible for the Biomedical Sciences BSc programme at the University of Liverpool, Bengaluru.

    Eligibility criteria

    • Indian boards: Class XII (Science) with a minimum 75% average (CBSE/ISC/state boards/Cambridge A Level) across four core subjects, with at least 75% in Biology and Chemistry and 60% in Mathematics at Class X
    • International Baccalaureate (IB): Minimum 32 points overall, no score below 4. Must include 5 in HL Biology and HL Chemistry
      • English A: grade 5 SL/HL; English B: 7 HL or 6 SL
      • Maths AA/AI: grade 4 HL or 5 SL (Mathematical Studies not accepted)
      • Alternative offer: Pass the IB, plus 6,5,5 in three HL subjects, including HL Biology and HL Chemistry
    • A-levels (UK/Cambridge A Level): Minimum ABB including Biology and Chemistry (excluding General Studies, Citizenship, and Critical Thinking), plus at least GCSE Mathematics grade C/4 and GCSE English grade C/4

    English language

    Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. This can be met through one of the following:

    • Standard XII English: Minimum 70% from CBSE, CISCE, Cambridge A Level or state boards
    • International Baccalaureate (IB): Minimum Grade 5 in English A (SL/HL) or minimum Grade 7 (SL) and Grade 6 (HL) in English B
    • Cambridge IGCSE: Minimum Grade C/4 in English (First Language) or minimum Grade B/6 in English (Second Language).

    In some cases, and depending on the overall university requirement, applicants may be asked to provide a recognised English language test such as IELTS or TOEFL in addition to school-level qualifications.

    Predicted grades (provisional criteria)

    Students who have not yet received their final Class XII results may still apply. In such cases, Class XI or Pre-Board scores can be considered for a conditional offer.

    Statement of purpose (SOP) / Personal statement

    All applicants are required to submit a statement of purpose / personal statement as part of their application.
