Year 1

Your first year marks the start of your transition from learner to independent student. You’ll explore the core concepts of biology and the fundamental principles of immunity, infection, and therapy. You’ll also study how organisms develop and function while examining ecology and the global environment.

Practical lab sessions will help you build essential scientific and quantitative skills, while tutorials will develop your study techniques and academic confidence. By the end of the year, you’ll begin to see how the biosciences connect as a whole, and where Biomedical Sciences fits within this fascinating scientific landscape.

Year 2

In your second year, you’ll expand your range of knowledge, building those essential research skills, experimental design and analysis, together with professional skills preparing you for a career within or outside the area of biomedical sciences. You will study physiology, biochemistry, immunology, genetics, and pharmacology.

Year 3

Year three will provide an unparalleled opportunity to learn at the cutting edge of biomedical sciences research. You will also have the chance to take a physical or virtual placement. Central to this year is the capstone research project, where you will plan and execute your own research, analyse, and critically evaluate data and communicate your research findings in your chosen specialisation.

The MSc is UGC‑recognised, taught entirely in English, and provides an authentic international learning experience aligned with Liverpool’s global academic benchmarks.

Do I need to take IELTS or another English language test?

All programmes at the University of Liverpool are delivered in English, so applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. However, the specific English language requirements vary by programme and academic background.

For applicants from India, Class XII English (from recognised boards) may be accepted as evidence of proficiency, depending on the score obtained and the requirements of the chosen programme.
